Symphony For Life Foundation is investing in our Australian children and young people who need it most. Our aim is a happier, more creative and more productive Australia by means of SFL social action music programs. With income, resource and opportunity disparity greater than ever, the need for our work is more compelling than ever before
SFL creates excellent orchestras and choirs for children and young people living in challenging or emerging communities. SFL Programs are in fact learning experiences in skills for life, with music as the key.
All the children receive an instrument, their small group tuition and rehearsals free of charge. The bargain is that they work very hard, attend all sessions, are persistent and meet the personal, social, physical, intellectual and musical challenges of orchestra. They must attend school and strive to become responsible and reliable members of the community at all times.
With orchestra as a metaphor for creating a highly productive, organised and creative community, the children learn skills for he 21st Century: communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. They are encouraged to be entrepreneurial and to accept personal responsibility for their lives.
Each child is able to develop their self control, self confidence and their leadership skills though structured activities within and around the music. The music teaching artists have been selected for their excellence not only as performers and teachers on their instruments, but also for their qualities as mentors and life coaches for the young musicians.
Personal excellence in life, developing leadership skills and musical excellence are notable results of SFL programs.
